Mangalore, Oct 24: Several activists belonging to the district unit of Campus Front of India (CFI) were held outside Deputy Commissioner's office here on Thursday, while they attempted to gherao the office in protest of the justice denied in the sensational Soujanya rape and murder case.
A tense situation prevailed for a few minutes as activists held a protest and tried to gherao the DC office at noon on Thursday. Close to 100 members of the student organisation took out a rally from Mangalore University College in Hampankatta to the State Bank area, and tried to move past the barricades put up outside the office compound.
The protestors demanded justice for Soujanya, whose case was still under investigation even after a year and urged for a CBI probe in this regard. As the protestors tried to move past the barricades, the local police rounded them up and took them to the police station in vans, as people looked on.
In the protest, CFI state president K A Mohammed Iqbal, state committee member Mohammed Thufail, state secretary Mohammed Tafseer and DK district president Sanaullah were held among several others, as police dispersed the crowd that had gathered at the scene.
