Bangalore, Nov 24: Heavy rain lashed the City and surrounding areas on Saturday night, throwing weekend traffic out of gear.

By 11:30 pm, Bangalore received a rainfall of 106.2 mm. It was immediately not known whether it was a record on a single day in November.

Most of the underpasses were flooded with almost four feet of water and several roads had knee-deep water, triggering massive traffic jams in the central business district.

Several places reported flooding and waterlogging. People who were gearing up for weekend celebrations and those who were out shopping were caught unawares as it started pouring in the evening and lasted for a few hours.

Around 20 houses in the Kamakhya area of Banashankari, near the Deve Gowda Petrol Bunk, Banashankari II Stage and at Ganesh Mandir ward were flooded.

Eleven houses at Krishnappa Garden and one each at Malleshwaram Circle, Someshwaranagar and Journalist Colony were also flooded.

Several houses at Kamalanagar, Laggere, Kalyan Nagar at Nagarbhavi, Mahalakshmi Layout, J?P Nagar, Mahadevapura, Byatarayanapura, Wilson Garden and Kanakapura Road were inundated. The drains were choked with garbage at a number of places on MG Road and Church Street .

Officials of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said gangmen and lorries were sent to pump out water from the flooded houses soon after complaints were received. Mayor B S Satyanarayana instructed the gangmen and subordinates to take steps to clear the water-clogged areas and flooded zones. BBMP Commissioner M Laxminarayana told Deccan Herald: “We will ensure that the heavy rain does not disrupt the public. I am monitoring the areas affected by the downpour and have alerted the control room as well.”

Vehicular movement came to a standstill for more than two hours in the City's central business district.

Government and private buses were stuck on roads in Okalipuram, K?G?Road, Yeshwanthpur, Bellary Road, Electronics City and Mysore Road,?said the traffic police. Vehicles clogged the area around Anand Rao Circle and near the old Kino theatre for hours. It was a similar story at Shantinagar bus stand. It was a herculean task for the traffic police to manage vehicular flow as signal lights went off at several junctions.?The police deployed additional forces and manually handled the vehicular movement.

The rain partially affected trains' schedule. Some trains left the City and Yeshwanthpur stations late, added the police.

Slow moving traffic was also reported at Mekhri Circle, Seshadripuram Underpass, K R Market Circle, Anil Kumble Circle, Magadi Road, Hebbal among others. On MG Road, there was traffic congestion even around 10:30 pm. The entire stretch of MG Road from the Brigade Road intersection to Chinnaswamy Stadium was clogged with vehicles as well.

A number of vehicles were also seen floating at traffic junctions such as Shivananda Circle, Seshadripuram, Rhenius Street, Shantinagar and Mekhri Circle among others.

At many places, vehicle owners abandoned their vehicles and were seen wading in waist-deep water. Such scenes were witnessed mostly at underpasses, said Laxminarayana.

“Underpasses in various places have up to four feet of water. In some places roads have been flooded with two feet of water. However, most main roads are not flooded. We have not received many calls of houses being flooded as yet. Water will pumped out of flooded subways once the rain stops,” he added.

Vehicles parked in the basement of apartments at J?P?Nagar, Puttenahalli, Marathalli, K?R?Puram, Indiranagar and other places were submerged in the rain water. Two cars, three auto rickshaws and two bikes were submerged at the railway underbridge in Sheshadripuram, said BBMP officers.

The JD(S) on Tuesday, April 30, announced that former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's grandson Prajwal Revanna has been suspended from the party temporarily until allegations against him over sexual abuse are probed.

Revanna and his father HD Revanna, also a JD(S) MLA, were booked on Sunday by the police for sexual harassment and criminal intimidation based on a complaint from a woman, who worked in their household.

"We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We've taken a decision to recommend our party's national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed, " JD(S) core committee president GT Devegowda said.

Revanna currently is not in India. Opposition members raised concerns over how he was allowed to leave the country.

"A decision was already made. Tomorrow it is to be recommended at the core committee meeting in Hubballi. Because he (Prajwal) is a Member of Parliament, it has to be done from Delhi. So I had requested Deve Gowda (JD(S) National President and former PM). Neither he (Gowda) nor I were aware of this issue," party chief H D Kumaraswamy has said yesterday. "Some issues have come out, based on that it has been decided yesterday itself to suspend (him). But many were in a hurry."

Prajwal, 33, represents the BJP-JD(S) alliance in the Lok Sabha election in Hassan, which happened on Friday.

Kumaraswamy alleged that Congress was manipulating facts to destroy the image of his family amid the controversy over the 'obscene' video case against his nephew Prajwal.

"We are not going to protect him, we will take severe action but the government's responsibility is more," Kumaraswamy said.

"This is the manipulation of Congress to destroy the image of our family. What is the role of Dewegowda Ji or me? We are not responsible for all those things. This is the individual issue of Prajwal Revanna. I am not in contact with him (Prajwal). It is the responsibility of the government to bring him before the law. Morally we have decided to make some decisions," Kumaraswamy told reporters on Tuesday.

Prajwal Revanna sex scandal

The state government under CM Siddaramaiah has formed a Special Investigation Team to look into the matter. In recent days, certain explicit video clips purportedly featuring Prajwal have circulated in Hassan.

In response, Revanna stated his willingness to cooperate with any investigation regarding the allegations of sexual abuse against his son and himself. He affirmed their readiness to accept any legal consequences if the accusations are substantiated.

Prajwal's father HD Revanna said that his son would appear for an SIT probe whenever he is asked to.

A case of sexual harassment and stalking was registered on Sunday against HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna at Holenarasipur police station based on a complaint by their cook.

The complainant said she is a relative of Revanna's wife Bhavani.

She claimed that four months into her employment, Revanna began sexually harassing her, while his son Prajwal engaged in video calls with her daughter, engaging in "vulgar conversations."

She also alleged that there is a threat to her life as well as other members of her family.

Mangaluru, May 6: A five-year-old girl from Arendur village of Siddapura taluk of Uttara Kannada district died of Kyasanur Forest Disease (monkey fever) recently.

As her health deteriorated, she was admitted to the KMC Hospital in Mangaluru, where she failed to respond to the treatment and died on Friday night.

It is learned that the KFD is slowly spreading to the newer areas of coastal and malnad areas of Karnataka

According to officials, KFD spreads due to bites of ticks that generally survive on monkeys. This tick bites humans which causes the infection. Humans also contract the disease by coming in contact with cattle bitten by ticks.

Several women, believed to be victims of Prajwal Revanna, have left their homes in Karnataka's Hassan district over the last ten days, according to media reports.

These departures reportedly come amid fear and stigma after their identities became public due to the circulating video clips showing the women who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Prajwal Revanna.

"The entire district is in H D Revanna’s control. You speak ill about them and chances are high that it will reach them, because the family and the party have a large following," a shopkeeper in Hagare - 20 km from Hassan – was quoted as saying by the news paper.

Hassan is the bastion of the JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda, and Prajwal, his grandson, is the sitting MP.

The family of the woman whose complaint was the basis of the first FIR against Prajwal has now left their home, the publication reported, citing a neighbour who said, "The woman worked at Revanna’s house as a house help. Some of her videos started to circulate and then, her house was seen locked. We don’t know when she left."

Notably, a former Zilla Panchayat member has also filed a rape case against Prajwal, and in that village many women who worked for the party formerly are now incommunicado, a JD(S) leader told the publication. "We noticed many of the party women deleting their photos with Prajwal on social media. In some instances, men are questioning their wives about their association with the MP. It is shattering the lives of many women in the district," he said.

The local leader added that the former Zilla Panchayat member was there on April 24, but no one had seen the family since the videos came out.

The case is currently being probed by an SIT team and when they reached the Revanna residence, party workers were reportedly heard talking about the women. "I know this woman, she lived close to our residence and was very active in JD(S) activities. Her house is locked… she has small children," one said, as per IE.

Another shopkeeper added, "It was really wrong to reveal the faces of the women. I know some of them, and they have gone into hiding. We don’t know whether they can return."

He noted that it is impossible to survive in Hassan while fighting a case against the Revanna family.

While Prajwal's father, H D Revanna is in SIT custody, a Blue Corner notice has been issued against the sitting MP.
