
The Islamic project explained that this is applicable to all the northern locations and some central locations like Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, North Africa and the gulf region. As for countries like South America, the crescent may be spotted tonight in which case Ramadan will begin on Saturday for them.
Khaled al-Zaaq, Saudi astronomer and member of the Islamic project to sight the moon, said in most regions of the Kingdom, the moon will disappear on Friday before sunset.
He said the criterion of moon sighting differs from one Islamic country to another as some countries use only naked eyes, while others employ astronomical calculations.
