Mangalore, Jun 30: With the advent of June, several changes were made to ease congestion in the movement of traffic in areas of Mangalore city where traffic is at its peak on all days.
In the newest change in the movement of traffic in the city, Mangalore city traffic police have introduced one-way system for three lanes around Balmatta and Bendoorwell on an experimental basis from Monday.
This is being implemented to avoid traffic jams that plague the traffic junctions at Pumpwell, Kankanady and Balmatta. The plan is to have a one-way triangle from Bendoorwell junction to Balmatta and Bendoor.
Details of one-way system
All traffic movement from Balmatta junction to Bendoorwell junction has been temporarily barred and vehicles from Balmatta junction will now have to proceed towards Horticulture junction via SCS Hospital road before making a right turn towards Bendoorwell.
Vehicles from Karavali junction (Kankanady bypass circle) will now have to proceed towards Agnes College via Balmatta junction, as traffic movement has been barred from Bendoorwell junction towards Horticulture junction (Colaco Hospital road).
Thus, it is a triangular one-way system for movement of vehicles from Bendoorwell junction to Balmatta junction and then to Horticulture junction via SCS Hospital road.
With no sign boards placed to indicate the recent changes made on Monday, motorists and riders could be seen coping with the inconvenience and negotiating the traffic movement.
Mangalore city traffic police officials said that the main intention of implementing the plan was to facilitate smoother flow of traffic at the major junctions of the city and to reduce traffic blockages.
