Mangalore, Jul 25: Tragically, dozens of students studying in the Government Women's First Grade College, Balmatta were barred from entering their classes on Friday, for having reportedly participated in a protest organised by Students Federation of India (SFI) a day earlier in the city.
When the students arrived to college to attend their classes on Friday morning, they were barred from entering classes as per the instructions of the college principal. Those who were barred from entering, remained standing outside their college building awaiting further order by the principal.
It is learnt that the students were not allowed to enter their classrooms even on Thursday afternoon following the SFI protest. The students informed mediapersons present that they had been barred from entering since they had taken part in the protest organised by the district unit of the organisation against the rise in number of crimes against women.
However, the students were allowed to enter their respective classes once the news began to spread and mediapersons arrived at the campus.
When contacted, the principal of the college clarified that he had taken a temporary measure since the students had not sought his permission before participating in the protest. Moreover, he said that the students had bunked their classes on Thursday to be a part of the protest.
