Kaup, Aug 19: Based on definite information, police on Monday arrested a person accused of several thefts in the surroundings of Kaup.
The accused has been identified as Ganesh Poojary (33), resident of Ankudru in Udyavara.
The police have recovered valuables and gold jewellery worth Rs 3.10 lakhs from his possession, along with few electronic appliances.
After procuring accurate information on the whereabouts of Ganesh during patrolling at Katapady, the police swiftly swung into action and were successful in nabbing the accused along with the stolen items.
In last June, Ganesh had reportedly stolen jewellery and other valuables from the residence of Lily Andrade in Udyavar. Thereafter, he broke into the residence of Sadananda Kotian and made away with a washing machine. In the last few days, he also stole jewellery from a house in Manipura.
Kaup police had registered cases on the thefts.
Following the arrest, the police recovered the stolen jewellery Ganesh had stored at a private bank. In addition, they have also recovered a Honda Activa and a cycle from his possession.
As per the directions of Udupi district Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad and additional SP Santhosh Kumar, a police team led by ASI Purushottham was successful in nabbing the culprit.
