Bhatkal/Udupi, Oct 30: A P Aboobakar Musliyar, the general secretary of the All India Muslim Scholars Association and founder of Jamia Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya, whose Karnataka Yatra' covered coastal districts of Udupi and Uttara Kannada on Wednesday called on the people to be united against terrorism and uphold communal harmony.
Thousands of people took part in rallies held in Bhatkal and Udupi as part of Musliyar's nine-day-long Yatra which is expected to culminate in Mangalore on November 2. The Yatra is organized to mark the silver jubilee of Sunni Students Federation (SSF) in Karnataka.
Addressing the rally in Bhatkal, Musliyar said that people of all religions must be united to establish communal harmony in the society and eradicate terrorism and violence. “All religions oppose violence and hatred,” he said.
On the same occasion, Musliyar laid the foundation stone for Tajussunnah Educational Institute.
Uttara Kannada District Wakf Advisory committee member Manzar Hussain presided over the formal programme. Dr Mohammed Fazil Razwi, SSF national vice-president MSM Abdurrashid Zaini Kamil were present on the occasion.
At around 4:30 p.m. the Yatra reached Udupi, where a massive humanistic conference was held under the theme respect the mankind'.
Addressing the conference, Musliyar reiterated that Karnataka government should seriously consider complete ban on alcohol in the state. “Complete ban on alcohol will ultimately make the state prosperous,” he said adding an alcohol-free society can be crime-free society.
He urged the Muslims to prove the allegations against them to be wrong by engaging themselves in serving the mankind and striving to build a peaceful society.
Musliyar also said that Muslims should come forward in the field of education. “Utilize the schemes of the union and state governments for the development of minorities,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, state minister for urban development, Vinay Kumar Sorake, hailed Musliyar for taking out Karnataka Yatra' for a cause. “This kind of programmes will always help in establishing communal harmony in the society,” he said.
State Ulama union president Udupi Khazi P M Ibrahim Musliyar presided over the programme.
