Nanditha death
Thirthahalli, Nov 27: The mystery over the death of 14-year-old girl Nanditha in Thirthahalli last month continues with the case taking a new turn.

The Forensic Science Laboratory has reportedly stated that traces of rat poison were found in the girl's body specimen sent to the laboratory. But the doctors, who treated her at Jayachamarajendra Hospital in Thirthahalli and at McGann Hospital in Shivamogga, never treated her for poisoning.

The doctor who treated Nanditha at McGann Hospital said on the condition of anonymity, “We did not find symptoms of poisoning. There was no history of poisoning. She was treated for fever, low blood pressure and vomiting in Thirthahalli. We too did the same. Neither the girl nor her parents disclosed anything about poison. Generally, consumption of routine poison, such as rat poison or pesticide, leads to irritation, pain, respiratory problem and multi-organ failure. Importantly, one could easily smell the poison. But, in this case, we did not smell any poison.

“When the blood pressure deteriorated despite the treatment, we informed the parents who decided to take her to KMC Hospital, where she died.”

According to sources at Jayachamarajendra Hospital, the girl reportedly told the doctor at the time of discharge on October 30 that she was forced to consume poison by a three-member group. But the doctor did not inform his counterparts in Shivamogga after sending her in an ambulance. Besides, a stomach wash was not done on the girl, performed in case of poisoning.

But the treatment certificate issued by Kasturba Medical College Hospital in Manipal, on November 3, mentioned the alleged history of poisoning. The report says, “Child Nanditha K B, daughter of Krishnappa, Balebailu, Thirthahalli Taluk, Shivamogga District, with alleged history of suspected abduction and poisoning, was admitted at 12:15 pm on October 31 in PICU (paediatric intensive care unit).”

It has also stated that the girl died of cardiac arrest as she was hypotensive. This has made the case more complicated. In the death note, reportedly found by the police, she said: “I am Nanditha. I have come here to commit suicide. I did not study well. So, I am committing suicide. But my father is a good person. You (younger sister) don't do like me. You do well in academics. I have committed a major blunder. I have consumed poison.”

The Forensic Science Laboratory has confirmed that the handwriting in the death note matched with that of the girl's. This has posed more questions. Did she consume poison at Anandagiri Hill, where she was allegedly kidnapped by the three-member group? Or at her house on the night of October 29?

According to the girl's father, she was forced to consume poison by the three-member group at Anandagiri Hill. The question puzzling the police is that, if this is true, why the girl was not taken to hospital on October 29 itself after knowing about the incident.

Nanditha was taken to Jayachamarajendra Hospital in Thirthahalli in the wee hours of October 30, after she complained of vomiting the previous day night. The girl's father T G Krishnappa, said, “We never brought rat poison to our home. Though it's sold in my grocery shop, my children are not aware of it. So, the report that she consumed rat poison is far from truth.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday attacked the BJP over the obscene video case in Hassan district by questioning who gave the accused Prajwal Revanna a visa to go abroad. He also hit out at Union Minister Amit Shah asking why did he gave a ticket to Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal, who is the accused in the sex scandal case.

He alleged that former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda planned the escape of his grandson and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna abroad.

“Who gives passport and visa for travelling abroad? It’s the Centre. Can he go without the Centre’s knowledge? It was former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda who planned and sent him abroad,” the Chief Minister said.

"Prajwal pen drives case is not related to DCM DK Shivakumar. Why did Amit Shah give a ticket to the accused of a sex scandal?" he questioned.

Siddaramaiah also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to direct the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs to cancel the Diplomatic Passport issued to Prajwal Revanna and ensure his return to face the law.

Prajwal is accused in an alleged sex scandal which is under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Karnataka government. He is believed to have escaped to Germany shortly after polling in the first phase of elections in the state got over on April 26, in which Prajwal was the JD(S)-BJP combine's candidate from Hassan.

The Karnataka CM said that SIT will conduct an investigation in a transparent manner in the case.

Earlier, Siddaramaiah wrote on X, "The government has decided to form a special investigation team in connection with Prajwal Revanna's obscene video case. Obscene video clips are circulating in Hassan district, where it appears that women have been sexually assaulted."

Bengaluru: All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba on Monday accused the BJP and JD(S) of being silent over the alleged sex scandal involving Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna and said the horrifying case of violence against women has shocked the nation.

"More than 3000 videos with hundreds of women being sexually harassed, violated and even brutalised by MP Prajwal Revanna over the past few years have shaken the conscience of Kannadigas and Indians alike," she told at a press conference here.

Prajwal (33) is grandson of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. JD(S) joined the NDA in September last year. He was the NDA candidate in Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went for polls on April 26.

According to police sources, he left the country after voting was over.

The Congress government in Karnataka on Sunday constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the alleged sex scandal.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal had started making the rounds in Hassan in recent days.

Lamba said the horrifying case of sexual violence against hundreds of women has shocked the nation.

"These acts of sexual brutality against hapless women has revealed the depravity of MP Prajwal Revanna, but the silence and sheer apathy of the BJP and JDS in this horrendous case is absolutely shameful," she said.

She alleged that in these videos, some recorded against the consent of the victim, women are seen pleading to be spared but the MP continues to brutalise and sexually violate them. Party 'karyakartas', panchayat members, elderly women, women who came asking for help to him and even maids have not been spared.

"The horrible fact is, that the acts of this sexual predator MP Prajwal Revanna was endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he campaigned in Old Mysuru Region on April 14th, 2024," she alleged.

"....the BJP JDS are still silent which shows you their true Anti Woman DNA!! Will the BJP or JDS answer?".

HSRP.jpg

With the Karnataka transport department extending the deadline for the installation of High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) twice--- in November last year and February, it is no longer planning to extend the same. The department ordered for the installation of HSRP before May 31.

The transport department through a notification in August last year, had mandated the installation on all the vehicles that were registered in the state prior to April 1, 2019. According to transport officials, there are nearly two crore vehicles that are supposed to get HSRP for their vehicles.

“As of now, the state has registered only 34 lakh HSRP installations, despite extending the deadline twice. From nearly 18 lakh installations since February, the numbers have almost doubled. However, there are still a large number of vehicles that have to opt for HSRP,” said C Mallikarjuna, Additional Commissioner for Transport (Enforcement).

“We will wait till May 31 to check for the total number of vehicles that fall in line. We are expecting HSRP installations to touch 75 lakh, after which we will consider an extension as the numbers indicate that people are falling in line and if some more time is given everyone will get it done. However, if we do not reach that number before the deadline, we will request the government not to extend the deadline but urge for an enforcement,” he said.

He also stated that a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed for the first time and if vehicle owners do not fall in line, it will be Rs 1,000 later until they have installed HSRP. “We will wait till the Model Code of Conduct ends and take the government’s opinion. We are going to request the government for strict enforcement if the HSRP installations are not satisfactory,” he added.
