New Delhi, Dec 29: Minister of state for home affairs on Monday confirmed that the IED explosion on Church Street in Bengaluru was a terror attack.

"Security and alertness needs to be enhanced. This was definitely a terror attack," Kiren Rijju said while speaking to mediapersons.
On Sunday, around 8.30pm, an IED exploded on Church Street, killing one woman and injuring five others. Hours after the blast, the Karnataka home minister had said that the explosion was a terror attack.
The Karnataka chief minister has called for a high-level meet today to review the situation and also announced a Rs 5 lakh compensation to the kin of the victim.
The woman who was killed was identified as Chennai resident Bhavani, 37, holidaying in the city.
The explosion, in the hub of New Year revelry , prompted police to sound a red alert.
Police commissioner MN Reddi told reporters it was a "low-intensity explosion" triggered by an improvised explosive device. "There was a threat perception to Bengaluru for some days now, but the advisory was generic. We are on alert," he said, adding it is too early to say who triggered the explosion. The injuries were caused by shrapnel from the explosive.
Home minister KJ George said: "It is an act of terrorism. It was done to create a fear psychosis. There is no need to panic. The culprits will soon be brought to book."
