Mangaluru, Mar 2: An expatriate worker returning home to Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district from Saudi Arabia went missing after he landed at an international Airport in Mumbai in Mumbai recently.
According to his uncle Ilyas Saqafi, residing in Uppinangady, Safwan had informed his family that he would be arriving at Mangaluru International Airport on February 21 at 10.30 p.m. and had them to receive him at the airport. However, while his family awaited his arrival, Safwan did not arrive by any flight landing from Saudi Arabia.
Thereafter, Mr Saqafi and others travelled to Mumbai on February 24 and lodged a missing complaint at Sahar police station in Sahar-Andheri East close to the airport.
Mr Saqafi told Coastaldigest.com that Safwan had been employed as an A/C technician in Riyadh and wished to permanently return home to Uppinangady. His Saudi Arabia mobile number has been switched off ever since he had informed of his arrival to Mangaluru. The entire family is worried and fervently hopes that he is found soon, he said.
He informed that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh had been notified of Safwan’s disappearance and the embassy officials might help in finding out if he had previously made phone calls to Mumbai or planned to meet with any of his known associates working there.
Safwan’s father Aboobaker who was employed in Saudi Arabia, had been killed four months ago. Now, the prospect of losing Safwan too, haunts his mother Zohra and other family members.
Anyone with information of Safwan’s whereabouts are requested to call 9740941339.
