Udupi, Mar 9: Thousands of enthusiastic Hindutva activists took part in a grand ‘Shobha Yatra’ held in the city as part of the Virat Hindu Samajotsav being organized to mark the golden jubilee celebration of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
The rally was flagged off at Jodukatte by Sri Nrusimhashrama Swami, the pontiff of Balekudru Mutt, in the presence of galaxy of social, religious and political leaders.
The Shobha Yatra culminated at MGM ground, the venue of Hindu Samajotsav, after passing through KM Marg, Diana circle, Alankar, service bus stand, city bus stand, Kalsanka and Kadiyali.
A considerable number of women also took part in the procession which completely saffronized the main streets of the city. Tableaux, nasik bands, traditional dance troops were also part of the Shobha Yatra.
Prashant Hartalkar, the convenor of the VHP will deliver the keynote address at the Samajotsav. Even though the organizers had invited Sadhwi Balika Saraswati after the district administration banned the entry of VHP supremo Pravin Togadia, she did not attend the convention.
