Melbourne, Mar 30: The call for justice in the sexual abuse case of a nursery student of Mangalore One School has resounded in Australia too.
Ashraf Nethikal, a young activist from coastal Karnataka, was seen holding a placard reading ‘Justice for Baby Nirbhaya’ at Melbourne Cricket Ground during ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 final match on Sunday.
It could be recalled here that a three-year-old girl was sexually abused by the van driver appointed by Mangalore One School, run by a retired police officer at Thokkottu in Mangaluru taluk on March 13.
The school had apparently tried to cover up the case by accusing the little girl of telling lies. Subsequently, medical report had confirmed the sexual abuse.
Even though the accused was arrested on the same day, no action has been taken against the school management yet.
It may be added here that a community page has been opened on Facebook in support of the child who has been described as Baby Nirbhaya by the creators of the page.
A group of citizens took out a silent candle light protest to register their angst at the incident. Mangaluru City Police too had convened a meeting of all educational institutions and issued them with a 14-point directive to ensure children's safety at all times while under their care.
