New Delhi, Apr 20: A 31-year-old AIIMS doctor killed herself and blamed her husband, also a doctor with the same hospital, for taking the extreme step.
In a detailed suicide note that she wrote before slitting her wrist, Priya Vedi said she was mentally harassed by her “gay” husband, Kamal Vedi (34). She had made similar allegations in a Facebook post on Saturday afternoon. However, the post did not immediately suggest that she was set to take her life.
A senior police officer said Kamal has been arrested based on a suicide note and based on the statements by Priya’s parents. The couple hail from Jaipur and had been married five years ago. They had been living at the AIIMS quarters. While Priya was an anesthetist, Kamal is a dermatologist.
Kamal had approached police on Saturday evening to register a complaint that Priya had gone missing. On Sunday morning, police learnt that a woman named Priya had checked into one Presidency Hotel late on Saturday night. She had submitted her driving license as proof of her identity.
A police team reached there and knocked at her hotel room door, but there was no response. When they broke into the room, Priya’s body was found on the bed with a slit wrist. Police said Priya alleged that her husband had “multiple sexual relationships with other men” and that the couple had never established physical relationship.
A senior officer said that Priya also alleged in the suicide note that she was being subjected to dowry harassment ever since she discovered her husband’s sexual preference.
