Ullal, Apr 24: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has called upon the people of coastal Karnataka to uphold communal harmony and shun intolerance.
Speaking after offering special prayers at Sayyid Madani Dargah at the historic town of Ullal on Friday, the chief minister said that achieving social justice and establishing hunger free society are among the priorities of his government.
Calling Ullal Dargah, where 20th quinquennial Urs is underway, a centre of peace and harmony, Mr Siddaramaiah recalled that he had visited the same Dargha before contesting last election and received blessings. “Today I am here as the chief minister,” he said.
He said that his government treats people of all religions and faiths equally. “For us all are equal and all great religions spread the message of peace and harmony. There is no room for communalism in any religion,” he said exhorting the people of all faiths to be united.
He said that with the aim of making Karnataka a hunger-free state in India, free rice will be distributed to the BPL card holders from May 1 this year. Besides, special subsidy will be given to the APL card holders too, under the revised scheme.
Karnataka Planning Board Deputy Chairman C M Ibrahim released the documentary of Ullal Dargah on the occasion. Health and Family Welfare Minister delivered introductory address.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Wakf Qamarul Islam, DK district-in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, former minister Iqbal Ansari, and a galaxy of political, social and religious leaders were present. Ullal Khazi Fazal Koyamma Thangal presided over the function.
