Mangaluru, May 20: In connection with the sexual abuse of a nursery student in Mangalore One School in Thokkottu, United Muslim Organisation, Dakshina Kannada has alleged that the management of Mangalore One School had unofficially circulated copies of the initial wound certificate of the child along with a misleading and offensive letter among the parents of other children studying in the school in a bid to prove that the charges of sexual abuse on the child were false.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, president of the organisation K Ashraf said that the organisation came to know that the school management had illegally circulated copies of the wound certificate of the child among the parents of other children studying in the school through post, after obtaining the document from the Lady Goschen Government Hospital where the medical examination of the child was conducted after the alleged sexual abuse by the van driver of the school was brought to light.

He said that it had come to the notice of the organisation that copies of the wound certificate from the medical examination conducted on the child, had been sent to parents of few students studying in the school through post. Along with the wound certificate, the post also contained content claiming that the little girl had been ‘tutored’ by her mother to assert that she had been sexually abused. The post also claims that the mother of the little girl wished to ‘withdraw her complaint’ but was afraid to do so fearing a counter-case against her, he said.

The content of the post also makes derogatory statements against the organisation for sensationalizing the sexual abuse case and falsely targeting the school, he said.

Mr Ashraf contended that the post, including the wound certificate, had been sent to the parents by the school management in order to cover up their negligence and distort the truth.

He informed that a complaint had been submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City in this regard, naming Sharat Saxena (Chairman of Mangalore One School) and Dr Shakunthala Shetty (Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital) for allegedly leaking the medical report and wound certificate to the school authorities.

Under the Protection Of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, it is an offence to share the medical report of the victim. Commissioner of Police S Murugan confirmed that a complaint had been handed over by the organisation in this regard.

Mr Ashraf also informed that the organisation would hold a mass protest against the negligence and unsuitable behaviour of the school authorities in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here on Friday at 4 p.m.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
