Udupi, Jul 4: The Karnataka government should not hesitate to hand over the case of alleged corruption in the Lokayukta office to the CBI, said B Janardhan Poojary, veteran Congress leader.
“It was the very same BJP and the JD(S) parties, which used to call the CBI as the ‘Congress Bureau of Investigation’, when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was in power. But now they are in love with the CBI and want every case to be given to it,” he said adding that the aim of these two parties is to destabilise the Siddaramaiah government. But that is not going to happen,” he said.
Mr. Poojary said that the reason both BJP and JD(S) were together targeting the Siddaramaiah government is because BJP leader Yeddyurappa and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy were facing charges of corruption with regard to land denotification.
To a question, Mr. Poojary said that the police should arrest Ashwin Rao, the son of Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao, who was facing charges of corruption, as an FIR had already been registered against him.
On the increasing incidents of farmer suicides in the State, Mr. Poojary said that the farmers, including sugarcane growers, had been pushed to distress due to the policies of the Union government.
The UPA government had waived farmer loans to the tune of Rs. 70,000 crore. “But the Narendra Modi government has done nothing for the farmers,” he said.
