Chandigarh, Jul 20: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev is a school dropout and did not study beyond middle standard but he may soon get an honourary doctorate degree from Haryana Agriculture University if sources are to be believed.
Though the HAU authorities refused to comment on the decision when Mail Today contacted them, sources said Ramdev will reach Hisar in Haryana on July 26, the day the agriculture university is organising its 24th convocation.
Sources said besides Ramdev, who is a native of Haryana, the university may also confer an honorary doctorate degree on Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, a Delhi University graduate. Though the final decision on the honorary degree will be taken by the University Board of Management, sources said it is merely a formality, adding that the programme to invite Baba Ramdev, CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki has already been finalised. Sources also said the university administration had sought Ramdev's consent for the honorary degree to which he had conveyed his consent by writing to the university.
However, Patanjli Yogpeeth Central incharge Dr Jaideep Arya told Mail Today, "I have no information whether an honorary degree is being conferred on Swami Ramdev but he will be attending the convocation on July 26."
In the past, those who have been conferred honorary doctorate degrees by HAU, include, former prime ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh, Narasimha Rao, Manmohan Singh, former deputy PM Chaudhary Devi Lal and former Haryana CMs Bansi Lal and Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
