Mangaluru, 27: The foundation was laid for the concretisation of seven prominent roads under Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits at a total cost estimate of Rs 14.70 crore by Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology B Ramanath Rai and Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake in the city limits on Monday.
The foundation for concretisation of Konchady-Kavoor road at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore, Pachanady main road at an estimated cost of Rs 1.50 crore, Maladi court road at an estimated Rs 2 crore, Ladyhill-Koragajjana Gudi connecting road at an estimated Rs 1.90 crore, Durgamahal-Bokkapatna road at an estimated Rs 1.65 crore, Subashnagar-Mangaladevi temple connecting road at an estimated Rs 4.65 crore and connecting road from Kadri gateway to Kadri temple at an estimated Rs 1 crore, from the Rs 100 crore funds under the second and third phase of Chief Minister’s special grant.
Additional developmental works to be undertaken
Speaking at a press conference after the foundation laying ceremony here on Monday, Mr Rai said that developmental works would be undertaken on six other prominent roads in the MCC limits shortly. The stretch from Kankanady junction to Retreat House (Valencia) will be developed as a model road at a proposed cost estimate of Rs 2 crore, stretch from Mutthappagudi-Shaktinagar burial ground will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.90 crore, stretch from Padavu High School to Sharbath katte at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore, Kodialguthu stretch at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakh, the stretch from B V Road in Highland to Attavar at a cost of Rs 1.80 crore and Suratkal-Chokkabettu road at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
Speaking about other developmental projects under MCC limits, he said that the special renovation project of the Town Hall including acoustic paneling, stage curtain, sound and lighting system, false ceiling, catwalk, seating arrangements, air-conditioning system and cable system at a total cost of Rs 2.55 crore, would be completed by the end of October.
Other works such as construction of drainage and footpath along both sides of stretch from Kadri-Shivbagh junction to Lower Bendoor junction at a total cost of Rs 4.32 crore was under implementation, while that of the stretches from Mangaluru central railway station to Nandigudda at a cost of Rs 1.66 crore and from Subashnagar junction to A B Shetty junction at a cost of Rs 2.85 crore were pending approval, he said.
Mangaluru selected for infrastructure development under 'Amrut' scheme
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sorake said that Mangaluru city had been included under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme under the ‘Smart Cities’ flagship project launched by the NDA government. Out of the 26 cities in Karnataka selected for implementing infrastructure development under the Amrut scheme, six cities fulfilling a specific set of criteria such as round-the-clock water supply, solid waste management, e-governance and underground drainage system, will be selected as those to be developed as ‘smart cities’, he informed.
