Bengaluru, Aug 3: Former Mandya MP, who is pursuing a course on policy issues in London, is expected to return to active politics soon.
The actor-turned-politician, who has been maintaining a low profile ever since she lost the 2014 parliamentary elections from Mandya, recently held a prolonged meeting with former external affairs minister S M Krishna and also visited the family members of farmers who committed suicide.
She also accompanied Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune on Friday.
Speaking to media persons after meeting former external affairs minister S M Krishna, the actor said that she was pursuing a course on policy issues in London. “I am pursuing a course and I have to spend some more time in London for this purpose. I am interested in learning about policy matters,” she added.
When asked about whether she was aspiring to become an MLC, she said that she was not after power or position. “I am still very young to aspire for any position and I have a long way to go in politics. But I am ready to take up any responsibility given by the party,” she stated.
Sources in the party said that she discussed about the farmers' suicide with Krishna and apprised him about her recent visit to Mandya district, where highest number of suicide cases have been reported.
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had recently directed Krishna to guide the party government in the State to prevent farmers from taking the extreme step.
Krishna, sources said, also advised Ramya to take all the leaders into confidence before taking any decision in the party. A number of leaders in Mandya district had reportedly complained that Ramya did not inform them about her visit to aggrieved families of farmers in the district.
