Mangaluru, Aug 4: In a first of its kind in the country, the Department of Health and Family Welfare in Karnataka is all sent to implement a new scheme to provide immediate treatment to the accident victims.
The main ‘Mukhyamantri Santwana Yojana’, the scheme aims at providing treatment in the golden hour and necessary financial aid to the accident victims, said U T Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare.
Addressing media persons in the city on Tuesday the minister said that the State Department of Finance had released Rs 6 crore out of Rs 72 crore demanded by the Department of Health and Family Welfare for this purpose.
“The scheme will be effectively implemented in the state once the remaining fund is released,” he said, adding that the government has already identified 178 hospitals under the scheme.
The scheme offers treatment even to a tourist from any State or country if he or she meets with an accident. Treatment can be taken in any private hospital and the expenses will be borne by the government, he explained.
Once the scheme comes into effect, the private hospitals cannot reject such cases (other than medico-legal cases) and must treat them, Mr Khader said, adding that the government will pay up to Rs 25,000 if the victim is hospitalized for more than 48 hours.
