Karnataka govt upset at CM not being invited for NASSCOM event

October 7, 2015

Bengaluru, Oct 7: Karnataka government today voiced its displeasure over Chief Minister Siddaramaiah not being invited for an IT event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, asking the BJP leader was this his concept of strengthening federal structure.

TB Jayachandra

The ruling Congress also hit out Modi, asking, "Is this Cooperative Federalism which PM talks about?"

An "upset" state Government said this had sent a "bad message" and virtually blamed the Prime Minister's Office(PMO) for Siddaramaiah not being extended an invitation to the NASSCOM event here yesterday.

"Not inviting the Chief Minister for the programme (NASSCOM event) - it has sent a bad message. We are all upset with that," State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters on the sidelines of the Cabinet meeting here.

Siddaramaiah accompanied Modi and Merkel in their visit to the facility of German automotive major Bosch here but he was not present at the Indo-German Summit organised by National Association of Software and Services Companies(NASSCOM) jointly with the German Fraunhofer Institute here yesterday.

According to the Chief Minister's office, Siddaramaiah did not get an official invitation either from NASSCOM or Prime Minister's Office.

Questioning Modi's often-repeated statements about strengthening federal structure, Jayachandra said, "He always speaks of strengthening the federal structure and sundry other things, but ultimately what is he doing? Is he taking all the parties together?"

According to the protocol, the participation of Chief Minister is necessary and it is in the "norms" that the PMO invites him for any official event, Jayachandra said.

"Shouldn't the PMO inform the state about the visit of the Prime Minister? The Chief Minister necessarily has to be the guest also," he said.

Asked whether the state government would write a letter to the Prime Minister on the issue, he said the ministers had impressed upon the Chief Minister to convey it to the PMO.

"We have impressed upon the Chief Minister also that it should be made known to the PMO, and let us see what action the Chief Minister takes," he said.

NASSCOM has not reacted to the issue yet.

"CM Karnataka not invited in NASSCOM function attended by PM and German Chancellor in Bangalore. Is this Cooperative Federalism which PM talks about? Would CM Gujarat also have not been invited if this function was in Gujarat?" party General Secretary Digvijaya Singh tweeted.

Singh is General Secretary in charge of party affairs in Karnataka.

Along with the German Chancellor, Modi had taken part at the meet, 'Indo-German Summit 2015: Digitizing Tomorrow Together'.

The Prime Minister also hosted a special lunch for Merkel with leading Indian CEOs at the summit which was attended by several industry biggies, including Wipro Chairman Azim Premji, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group Kumar Mangalam Birla, Tata Consultancy Services CEO N Chandrasekaran, ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar and L&T Chief A M Naik.

Siddaramaiah had received and seen off the Prime Minister at the HAL airport here and exchanged greetings and pleasantries.

Madikeri, May 11: Kodagu police have apprehended the man allegedly responsible for the brutal murder of a minor girl within the confines of Kumbaragadige village in Karnataka's Somwarpet taluk.

Kodagu Superintendent of Police, K Ramarajan, disclosed that the arrested individual is Prakash (32) from Hammiyala village in Somwarpet taluk. However, authorities are still in the process of recovering the severed head of the victim. The perpetrator had absconded with the victim's severed head after committing the crime.

Search operations for the suspect commenced late on Thursday night (May 9), with officials diligently pursuing leads. Acting on information suggesting the suspect's presence in a forested area near the village, the police swiftly moved in and apprehended him.

The victim US Meena, 15, a student of Surlabbi High School, had passed the SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced on May. One same day, she was murdered.

Reportedly, the engagement of the minor girl with the suspect was thwarted by officials from the Women and Child Development department. Subsequently, officials persuaded the girl's parents against proceeding with the marriage.

However, despite these interventions, the suspect forcibly entered her residence during the night, purportedly abducted her, and later perpetrated the heinous crime in a wooded area on the outskirts of the forest, before absconding with her severed head.

devaraje gowda.jpg

In a fresh claim, arrested BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda has alleged that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and four other ministers were behind exposing Prajwal Revanna’s sex scam that has brought disgrace to Janata Dal (Secular) H D Deve Gowda family.

Devaraje Gowda has been arrested in a sexual abuse case.

Speaking to reporters while being taken to the district prisons, in Hassan on Friday, Gowda alleged that he was offered Rs 100 crore to drag the name of H D Kumaraswamy in the Prajwal’s case.

“D K Shivakumar had offered me Rs 100 crore to project that H D Kumaraswamy was behind the case. The offer was made through ministers N Chaluvarayaswamy, Krishna Byre Gowda, Priyank Kharge and another minister. They had even sent Rs 5 crore as advance to Bowring Club. But I did not agree. Hence, they hatched a plot to trap me,” Gowda alleged.

“It is D K Shivakumar, who collected all information from Prajwal Revanna’s former car driver Karthik and readied the pen drive. A team of four ministers were formed to handle the issue. As I did not agree to the plan. They planned to bring disrepute to the BJP, Narendra Modi and H D Kumaraswamy,” he said.

Gowda further alleged that former MLC M A Gopalaswamy of Channarayapatna was sent to him for negotiation.

“The main intention of D K Shivakumar is to bring disrepute to Modi and BJP in the case. Besides, he wanted to defame H D Kumaraswamy’s leadership in the state” he claimed. “They filed a sexual harassment and rape case against me, but found no evidence. Now, they are trying to fix me in the pen drive case” he alleged.
