Kuwait, Nov 6: The family members of nine Indian expatriate workers from coastal Karnataka, who were reportedly taken into custody on charge of indulging in superstitious activities, have appealed the government of India to intervene in the matter.

Sources said that the NCWAK members were taken into custody after they organised a grand ‘ Shri Satyanarayana Puja’ in Kuwait. In many Middle Eastern countries, worshipping idols is considered as a superstitious practice.
Those who have detained are Ashok Kumar, Yadava Poojary, Anil Kumar, Prashant Shetty, Purushottam, Arun Shetty, Umesh Shetty, Satish Beluvai and Kumar Vamanjoor – all officer bearers of the NCWAK.
The family members of the detained NCWAK members have appealed Sushma Swaraj, the Minister of External Affairs of India, to contact the Kuwait authorities and get all the detailed expats released.
