Superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa told media persons on Monday that Mithun, a main accused in November 12 murder case was arrested near Puttur bus stand on the outskirts of the city.

Mithun is an accused one more murder case, three attempt-to-murder cases and eight other criminal cases in Bantwal and Vittla police stations.

With the fresh arrest, the total number of arrests in the case rose to three. Police had arrested Bantwal Bajrang Dal leader and rowdy-sheeter Bhuvith Shetty (25) and his associate Achyuta (28), near Mani village in Bantwal taluk on November 19.

The SP said that like other two accused, Mithun is also a Sangh Parivar activist. He said that police are trying to nab two more accused in the case. “Once they were arrested we will reveal complete details of the murder,” he said adding that investigation is still under away.

He said that the police have managed to seize the weapons used for the murder. However, the car in which the murderers had come, is yet to be traced.

Responding to a question, the SP said that none of the arrested in the case were innocents. “If you consider those who hatch a murder plot and execute it as innocents, then who is the culprit,” the SP questioned and said that all three arrests were made after gathering sufficient evidences.

It could be recalled here that Harish Poojary and his friend Sameeullah were attacked by the miscreants with lethal weapons on November 12 at Manihalli in Bantwal taluk hours after Sangh Parivar activists tried to disrupt peace by pelting stones at SDPI protesters in BC Road. Harish died soon after the attack and Sameeullah is still recuperating at a hospital.

The very next day of the murder of Harish Poojary, Hindutva outfits in Dakshina Kannada had imposed a forceful bandh the district and held Muslim organisations responsible for the murder. On the other hand senor leaders of BJP including union minister DV Sadananda Gowda and DK MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had held Congress govt of Karnataka responsible for this murder.

Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained two suspects in connection with the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case in Bengaluru, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

The preliminary probe has revealed that the two suspects were in direct contact with the suspected bomber.

The NIA sleuths have picked up the suspects from an area in the state capital. However, a statement is yet to be made by the NIA in this regard.

Even as the investigating agencies, both NIA and state special wing CCB teams have launched an extensive search operation in various states, the bomber has remained elusive. The authorities had obtained the bomber’s images and videos from CCTV footage on March 1, soon after the incident.

Sources said that the sleuths were suspecting that the bomber had come from Tamil Nadu and was staying in a neighbouring state for two months before carrying out the blast.

The hair samples of the accused were gathered from the hat of the accused which he abandoned in Bengaluru near a religious place. The authorities have sent the samples for the DNA testing and were hoping for a breakthrough.

The Rameshwaram Cafe bomb blast took place on March 1 on the International Technology Park Limited (ITPL) road in the Brookfield area. Low intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used to carry out the blast and nine persons were injured in the incident.

Deve Gowda told reporters on Tuesday that the decision to field Kumaraswamy, who is also JD(S) state president, in Lok Sabha polls from the Mandya seat was taken amid mounting public demand. "People are demanding that Kumaraswamy should contest from Mandya. In the core committee meeting as well, all members suggested that he should contest from Mandya," Deve Gowda said.

The former Chief Minister's son Nikhil Kumaraswamy had lost to independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh from Mandya in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The JD(S) supremo further said that the name of senior leader Mallesh Babu has been finalised from the Kolar seat.

Earlier in the day, Kumaraswamy in a media briefing indicated that he would contest from Mandya amid mounting public pressure on him.

Congress has fielded Venkatarame Gowda popularly known as ‘Star Chandru’ from the Mandya seat dominated by Vokkaligas. Star Chandru is a close associate of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has warned the individuals and political parties against the poll code violations during private events.

“Private events such as marriages, birthdays, housewarming ceremonies, and other non-political programmes do not require any permission. However, one should ensure that there is no violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) at these functions. Permission is needed if the events are attended by politicians or candidates,” the DC said.

He said that these gatherings will be under the surveillance of MCC teams, as there are chances of luring voters by campaigning and supplying food, said the DC. The district has 38,386 new voters, of which, 19,619 are men.

He said that the notification of election in Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency will be issued soon, and the filing of nominations will be held between 11 am and 3 pm till April 4.

Only five persons, including the candidate, will be allowed to enter the returning officer’s chamber to submit the nominations. A facilitation centre will be opened at the DC’s office.

The expenditure of the candidate will be counted from the day the candidate files the nomination.

The DC said that the district is not an expenditure-sensitive constituency. Assistant expenditure observers and expenditure observers will monitor the expenditure of the candidates. An expenditure book will be provided to the candidate to record expenditure incurred, he explained.

Further, he said that no election materials can be printed without the name and address of the publishers, and the number of copies printed. Separate permission should be availed for procession prior to the submission of nomination papers from the ARO office, through the single-window system.
