Mangaluru, Feb 11: Nearly 40 persons, including members of a marriage party returning to Bengaluru, were injured in a collision between a private bus and a lorry at Addahole near Gundia Gate on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said that members of a family from Jayanagar in Bengaluru were returning in a private bus after attending a marriage in Dharmasthala in the morning.
At Addahole, the bus hit the cement-laden lorry while negotiating a curve.
The newly wedded couple Vivek and Ramya were also in the ill-fated bus that turned turtle on the road after the collision. The lorry was on its way to Mangaluru.
The police, who rushed to the spot, mustered the help of local people and shifted at least 15 injured persons to two private hospitals in Mangaluru. Other 25 people have sustained minor injuries.
Mr Sharanappa said that except for the lorry driver, all the injured persons were out of danger. The married also couple sustained minor injury, he added.
