Mangaluru, Apr 13: A tense atmosphere prevailed in Ullal and surrounding areas in Mangaluru taluk after a 40-year-old fisherman was found dead with his face disfigured near Kotepura on Tuesday.
Jurisdictional Ullal police said that the dead body of Raju Kotyan was found lying amidst a heap of debris in front of Barakah factory near Kotepura.
Local residents are of the suspicion that either someone might have murdered him by hitting on his head and face with a heavy stone, or a heavy vehicle driver might have thrown the dead body there after he was killed in accident while walking on the road side early morning.
Kotyan was married for nine years but had no children. He had left home early morning without taking his mobile phone along with him. He was supposed to go for fishing on a boat along with two colleagues.
When the Kotyan did not reach the place from where the three fishermen had planned to start their voyage, the other two fishermen tried to contact him over phone. Kotyan's wife picked the call and informed them that he had left home on time.
It is learnt that they were about to file a complaint with Ullal police station after Kotian went missing under mysterious circumstances. However, at around 2 p.m. someone noticed Kotyan's dead body and the news began to spread like wildfire in the area.
A team of police visited the spot for investigation. A dog squad was pressed into action and fingerprint experts were also called in.
