Mangaluru, May 28: A 32-year-old man lost his life as he allegedly jumped into a well while his 26-year-old wife managed to survive after the suspected bid at Nekkilady village in Uppinangady on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
Prakash K, a lecturer at Jidekallu Women's College in Puttur is the deceased. His 26-year-old wife Ashashree, who had also jumped into the well managed to come out with the help of neighbours.
It is learnt that the couple frequently used to quarrel over trivial issues. On Friday late night, it is suspected, the husband jumped into the well after allegedly quarrelling with his wife.
Shocked by her husband's extreme step, the wife also allegedly jumped into the same well but she did not drown. After falling into the well she tried to rescue herself by tightly holding the water pipe.
Around 6 a.m. on Saturday, one of their neighbours heard screams from the well and when he peeped into it, the woman started begging for help.
The neighbours managed to rescue her and when she was questioned about her husband she did not give proper answer. The neighbours grew suspicious and began to search for him inside the well.
Later, Prakash's body was retrieved from the well by the fire personnel. Puttur rural police visited the spot and registered a case.
