Mysuru, Dec 31: With former minister V Srinivas Prasad deciding to join BJP in the first week of January, his followers in the Congress party too have decided to follow his footsteps and join the saffron party. City Congress committee general secretary C G Shivakumar, who accused the party of showing discrimination against dalits, said he has resigned from the Congress party membership and will join BJP on January 2, along with his leader Srinivas Prasad in Bengaluru.
Speaking during a press meet on Friday, Shivakumar said there had been a bond between dalits and Congress for centuries in the state. "But from the past few years, due to selfish decisions by a few Congress leaders, the relationship has been ruined. The decision to remove Srinivas Prasad from the cabinet had caused irreparable rift between dalits and Congress," he said.
Shivakumar said he had written to AICC president Sonia Gandhi to intervene and resolve the problem but there was no action."So protesting against the attitude of Chieft minister Siddaramaiah, I have resigned from the general secretary post and primary membership. I will join BJP and support Srinivas Prasad to win the Nanjangud by-election," he said.
Meanwhile, advocate Shivanna said he has also resigned from DCC secretary post and Congress membership.
