Bengaluru, Jan 18: A jilted woman threw acid and slashed a man's face for refusing to marry her in Vijayanagar on Monday night.
The incident came to light on Tuesday after the victim, Jayakumar Purushottam (32), approached the police to lodge a complaint. The police have arrested the accused, Lydia Yeshpaul, a nurse at a private hospital on Ali Askar Road.
Jayakumar tried to convince Lydia that their marriage may not be a smooth affair as they belong to different religions, and also because his parents were against the alliance.
After ending their relationship, Jayakumar started looking out for a bride.
This infuriated Lydia who prepared herself and attacked Jayakumar on Monday night when he was returning home from work. After procuring the acid and the scalpel from the hospital where she worked, Lydia accosted Jayakumar near Pipeline Road in Vijayanagar.
She threw acid and then pulled out the scalpel and slashed his face before fleeing from the spot.
Passersby rushed Jayakumar to the K C General Hospital. The police have booked Lydia under relevants Sections of the IPC, including 307 - attempt to murder.
