Shivamogga, Feb 4: After a college here lifted a controversial dress code that had been in force since the start of the current academic year, a group of students supported by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on Friday in the college premises demanding the code continue to remain in effect.

Cops led by Shivamogga SP Abhinava Khare, however, managed to quell the agitation.

An affiliate college of Kuvempu University, Sahyadri Science College imposed the dress code following a directive from the varsity. Similarly, the decision to lift restrictions on the sartorial choice of students too came from the varsity's registrar.

Trouble started around a month ago when a few ABVP activists demanded the college authorities to impose ban on Muslim girls' hijab or headscarf.

Although college authorities did not object Muslim girls' headscarf, a group of male students started coming to college sporting a saffron shawl, in protest against the girls wearing the headscarf.

Taking cognisance of the controversy, the varsity decided to lift the dress code from Friday. Those who protested on Friday said that they would continue to wear a saffron shawl till the college enforced the dress code.

Sahyadri Science College principal H Shakuntala said, "It was the university's decision. I cannot comment on the issue."

Such protest 100% reflecting on their parents and backing politicians image and intention. More ever the patriotism. How they respect our great nation INDIA and our constitution. All their behaviors communal mind sets are coming out only after rss led bjp government rule. For the past 70years all went peacefully.

Mangaluru, May 4: The Mangaluru International Airport was besieged with a harrowing message of terror recently, when an email, purportedly from malevolent elements, menacingly declared the planting of bombs within the airport premises.

Addressed to the office of the airport authority, the missive, steeped in ominous overtones, bore the ominous signature of a terrorist faction, ominously named 'Terrorizers 111'.

The communication, disseminated in English, ominously detailed the clandestine emplacement of explosives in areas eluding facile detection, accompanied by a chilling warning of their imminent detonation. The threat, ominously looming over not only the infrastructure but also the airborne vessels, portended a catastrophic deluge of bloodshed and loss.

In response to this dire communiqué, airport authorities swiftly engaged the apparatus of law enforcement, dispatching urgent alerts to the vigilant guardians of public safety. Acting upon the dictates of higher echelons, a formal dossier of this menacing correspondence was meticulously compiled, cloaked in the veil of confidentiality to thwart any premature dissemination.

Mangaluru International Airport found itself in grim camaraderie with more than 30 counterparts under the aegis of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and private domains, all recipients of this chilling electronic diatribe. A comprehensive net of precautionary measures was swiftly cast, fortifying the bastions of security in anticipation of any nefarious designs lurking within the shadows.

Mangaluru: Disgruntled BJP leader and former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, who is contesting the legislative council election as an independent candidate from the South West Graduates constituency, said the BJP has adopted the “godfather culture” of the Congress.

Bhat told reporters here on Saturday, that he has not tried to appease any senior BJP leaders to get a party ticket to contest the MLC poll.

“I am contesting and seeking votes based on my achievements. My contesting may have a negative impact on the BJP. However, I want to go back to the BJP after winning this election,” Bhat said, and refused to answer the actual reason for the denial of a BJP ticket to him.

“I have no idea who played from behind that I was denied a ticket for the MLC poll.

Earlier, the BJP had a culture of selecting candidates for MLA and MLC polls by seeking the opinion of party workers at the booth level, followed by discussions at mandal and district levels.

Now the situation is such that even if one person’s name was sent from the state, the final list will be different. The godfather culture of the Congress has stretched into our party too. Only those who appease leaders get a ticket in the BJP. However, I have not appeased any leader. I believe in the support of party workers, and with this confidence I am contesting the election,” Bhat said.

To a query, Bhat said that he has not contacted by BJP leaders after deciding to contest the MLC poll.

“I have already requested all leaders that I should get the party’s Form B to contest the MLC poll from the South West Graduates constituency. I have told them that I am also contesting as an independent candidate on behalf of the BJP. The ultimate aim of my contesting the election is that senior leaders should know the injustice that honest party workers are facing in the BJP,” he said.
