Mangaluru, Apr 11: Reiterating his faith in the police force, Congress leader U T Khader said that the entire department should not be blamed for the wrongdoings of a few individuals.
“Anyone can join police force. And hence, saffronization of entire police department is impossible. Why do you target entire department if a few officers or personnel indulge in anti-constitutional activities,” questioned Mr Khader, who represents Mangaluru constituency in Karnataka Assembly.
Expressing regrets over the attempts to target him by a section of people following the alleged police atrocity on Ahmed Qureshi, a Katipalla based youth, who was arrested in connection with a murder attempt case, and subsequent crackdown on PFI protest in Mangaluru, Mr Khader said that this was not the first time he is being targeted for no reason.
Using an allegory, Mr Khader said that people normally throw stones at mango tree and not a at a banyan tree.
He also said that he had personally discussed the issue of alleged police torture with Karnataka chief minister and home minister and that both of them had assured necessary action against the guilty after a probe.
