Chikkamagaluru, Apr 21: Chikkamagaluru SP Annamalai has warned against dragging his name into the issue of transfer of a policeman in Udupi by attributing a viral audio clipping to him.
It is being circulated in the name of Chikkamagaluru SP Annamalai. The conversation carries some derogatory remarks against the senior police officials and politicians.
“Some miscreants have attributed one voice in the audio to me for unknown reasons,” said Annamalai, who severed as SP in Udupi before being transferred to Chikkamagaluru.
After a careful study and analysis of the conversation in the audio clipping, it is learnt that it is a telephonic conversation between the police constable and former policeman Shashidhar Venugopal, who runs an unauthorised police association, he added.
The audio clipping has also been uploaded by Venugopal in his Facebook profile using Sound Cloud application at 2.31 pm on April 8.
Annamalai said he spoke to the constable and the latter confirmed that he had a telephonic conversation with Venugopal and also referred to the same audio clipping.
Annamalai clarified that the voice in the clipping is not his and has appealed to users to stop sharing and circulating the clipping. Legal action will be taken against those who continue sharing and circulating the clipping for misusing his name, he warned.
He said he received cooperation from all political leaders, including the district in-charge minister, during his tenure as Udupi SP. He said he holds all of them in high esteem even now.
It could be recalled here that M S Prakash, a constable attached to Malpe police station, was suspended for a few days earlier this month for allegedly beating up Kumar, an employee of a fishnet factory owned by district minister Pramod Madhwaraj. However, following a public outcry, Udupi SP K T Balakrishna revoked the suspension and transferred him to Karkala police station.
