Mangaluru, Apr 23: Chamrajpete MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan, who was suspended by the JD(S) last year along with seven other rebel MLAs, has announced that he would join Congress party before the next assembly polls.
"I will be contesting as a Congress candidate in the next assembly election," he said and predicted that H D Kumaraswamy’s leadership will lead to the destruction of JD(S) in Karnataka.
He also said that he would retire from politics and leave the state if JD(S) bags 120 seats in the next election as predicted by Kumaraswamy.
It is worth mentioning here that following his suspension from JD(S), Zameer had expressed his willingness to join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of Sharad Pawar with seven other rebel MLAs.
The JD(S) had suspended eight of its MLAs when they had flouted the party whip and cross-voted in favour of Congress candidate K C Ramamurthy during Rajya Sabha election held in June 2016. However, according to Zameer, it was Kumaraswamy who asked the rebel MLAs to vote against JD(S) candidate B M Farooq.
