Mangaluru, Apr 28: Accusing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led union government of betraying the people of the country after promising 'acche din', Congress leader Kavitha Sanil said that they would teach BJP a lesson in the next election.
Ms Sanil, who is also the Mayor of Manglaur, was speaking at a protest meet organised by the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Youth Congress in front of the office of deputy commissioner in the city on Thursday.
Slamming Mr Modi for problems faced by the people in the wake of sudden note ban, she said that the ever increasing prices of the commodities have worsened the situation. "People can only afford rice anymore, cooking a side dish has become too expensive," she said.
Mithun Rai, a leader of the youth Congress said that the BJP has led to the downfall of the country with its false assurances. He accused the Modi government of being involved in a scam along with the Gujarat state petroleum corporation.
He said that a false report of a budget of Rs 19,700 core project to extract crude oil from the banks of rivers Krishna and Godavari has been issued by the government. According to the accusation, the project has been assigned to a company that was registered only in a period of 6 days which seems suspicious. He demanded a CBI investigation probe into this matter and demanded the arrest of the PM With regard to this issue.
Mr Rai also accused the government of compromising with the health of people by promoting generic medicine in the country.
Dr Shekhar Poojary, a physician from Bajpe, spoke on the effects of generic medicine on people immunity. He said that they create resistance and reduce immunity due to its poor quality and make it difficult for other powerful medicines to cure disease. He stated that this decision of the government will lead to a downfall of over 10 lakh families that are dependent on pharma companies for their livelihood. He further added that this move by the central government has deeply insulted the efficiency of the profession of doctors all over the country.
The issue of the CPRF soldier being suspended for speaking up against quality of food in the army camp was also brought to light during the rally. "We are moving towards a dictatorship with Modi's government", said Mr Rai.
Mr Rai said that the government has no achievements of its own as it has only renamed the programmes and schemes introduced by Dr Manmohan Singh led previous government and has claimed it as its own.
The protesters also accused the central government of slashing election grants for the state elections as a part of their election agenda.
Shashidhar Hegde, council whip and former mayor of the city, Praveen Chandra Alva, corporater, Merril Rego, youth Congress leader, were among the protesters.
