Mangaluru/Karwar, May 12: Two visually impaired boys in coastal Karnataka have set an example for all students by scoring high in the PU Examination.
Omkar Pavaskar, a visually impaired since his birth, who was denied education by schools while seeking admission, has scored 94 percent.
The schools kept repeating that this boy may not be able to study in regular classes. But the talent of Omkar was spotted by a few samaritans who admitted him directly to the 7th public examination where he passed the examination with good marks.
The boy got the opportunity to go to regular classes and he turned the opportunity into glory by scoring 92 percent in SSLC. When he was admitted to regular class at Govt PU College in Karwar, his classmates had never imagined that this boy could outsmart them.
The boy who could not read had an Ipod with him in which he listened to every lecture and created a world of academics within his eyes that got him the 94 pc. His father Santhosh Pawaskar said, “He is indeed a model for others. He is not abnormal but he is super normal.”
Another achiever is Prakash Balagannur, a student of Alva’s College in Moodbidri. Prakash too is visually impaired since birth. He scored 553 marks with a score percentage of 92 in Arts.
Though he hailed from Kushtagi in Koppal district, he had to travel to Dakshina Kannada for studies as he could not find a suitable institution for him in his home town.
“I am grateful to Alva’s college which provided me free education and accommodation under adoption scheme,” says a humble Prakash.
