Mangaluru, May 13: The seventh graduation ceremony of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru was held on Saturday at Loyola Hall of the college in the city. Rev. Fr Stanislaus D’Souza SJ, Provincial Karnataka Jesuit Province, declared the ceremony open followed by the oath-taking ceremony led by Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions. There were a total of 1761 graduates with 1002 UG Graduates and 616 PG Graduates, 22 BTFS Students And 121 Diploma Students were graduated.
The programme was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor, Yenepoya University. Quoting Franklin D Roosvelt he said, “we cannot build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future”.
He said, the involvement of youth in national development is must. In fact, youth play one of the most important roles in nation building .youth are not only leaders of tomorrow, but also the partners of today. Stressing on Time management he said, time is precious and its wastage is a great loss for the future, while they spend lot of time on social media and Smartphone, it would be wise if the youth channelize this time in constructive ways.
Adding to that he said - a good college today must provide students with a balanced and broad education that focuses on critical analysis and problem solving skills. He congratulated the Principal and faculty members of St Aloysius College under MJES for spreading the light of education and empowering students with value based education right from its inception.
Rev. Fr Stanislaus D’Souza SJ, President, Mangaluru Jesuit Educational Society (MJES) andProvincial Karnataka Jesuit Province, addressed the graduates saying – time and energy earlier was only given importance to the body , but now in the present situation its important to give time to both mind and body as they are inter connected. Aloysians have to be bold and appreciative of others, weak are the only ones those who are envious .Try to be a part of the community, humanity and the part of the world. Student should always remember their Alma Mater, which means a nurturing mother and Aloysius was a mother to cater to all the needs of students making them men and women for others.
Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions and Vice President of MJES addressed the gathering saying St Aloysius College creates leaders who are Visionary ,Transformational and Servantry .It imparts in making welcoming leaders with human nature being ambassadors of various leaders . Our vision should always be to create bridges and break walls and build human communities across the borders. Quoting Plutarch Fr Rector said “Mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled” which also upholds the Logo of the college which refers to the mind and heart which in turn creates men and women of love and concern to the others.
The dignitaries on the dais also included Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Principal, St. Aloysius College who welcomed the gathering; Dr. A M Narahari, Registrar of St Aloysius College, Rev Fr Pradeep Sequiera SJ, Finance Officer, Experts of Academic Council, Vice- Principals and Deans of the various campuses of the Institution and the convenor, Mr Chandrashekar Shetty.
