Bengaluru, May 15: Criminal cases would be registered against anyone furnishing false information and documents to secure free seats in private schools under the RTE quota.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait, in a note, has asked the Department of Public Instruction to issue a circular to all schools and officials to bring such instances of fraud to the notice of the government for initiating legal action.
Shivakumar’s school
Earlier speaking to media persons Sait assured of getting admissions to children allotted seats under Right to Education (RTE) quota at the school run by his cabinet colleague D K Shivakumar.
Following the protest staged by parents against National Hill View School at Rajarajeshwari Nagar, over denial of admissions to their children, the minister promised to step in.
Though he tried to justify Shivakumar’s statement by saying, “It is a good move to cross-verify income documents of the parents of those kids,” he later changed tack saying, “No one will be allowed to violate rules and we will initiate action against such schools.”
“I got to know about the issue through social media. After amending the Education Act we have control over schools affiliated even to other boards. We have verified the income certificates submitted by parents and schools cannot re-verify it again. The system cannot be diluted,” he said.
Two days ago minister D K Shivakumar had told media persons that his institution will not give seats under RTE quota at Class 1 level as it has already given seats at LKG level. But this year, the state government allowed two entry points, one at LKG and another at Class, 1 to prevent schools from cheating the government on seats under the RTE quota.
