Bengaluru, May 19: Giving infighting and differences a break, senior leaders of Karnataka BJP such as B S Yeddyurappa and K S Eshwarappa this time not only shared the dais but also displayed a rare unity and attacked chief minister Siddaramiah led Congress government of Karnataka.

The saffron party leaders chose Tumakuru to join hands to create an impression that all is well within the party. Apart from BSY and KES, Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and D?V?Sadananda Gowda, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar and BJP general secretary in-charge of Karnataka P?Muralidhar Rao, assembled at the Siddaganga Mutt on Thursday morning and took the blessings of Shivakumar Swami. Later, they began their ‘drought study tour’ under the banner ‘Jansamparka Abhiyana.’

The BJP leaders visited a Dalit colony in Tumakuru. They had ‘thatte idli’ for breakfast at the residence of party?worker Hanumanthappa, at the Dalit colony. While addressing the party workers, the leaders criticised the Siddaramaiah government with the choicest words.

Yeddyurappa said, “The Siddaramaiah government is the Number One corrupt government in the country. Law and order situation has deteriorated in the state. As many as 6,524 murders have taken place in the state in the last four years and nearly 4,000 farmers have committed suicide. The chief minister is unaware of the prevailing drought situation.”

He said the Centre has released funds for taking up drought relief work in Karnataka. But the same has not reached the beneficiaries. The state is not distributing even rice and wheat supplied by the Centre under the public distribution system, he added.

Eshwarappa said “There are some minor differences among us. We will set them right. The party would face the next Assembly elections under the leadership of Yeddyurappa and he would be the next chief minister.

Siddaramaiah became chief minister accidentally, because the BJP had split.”Ananth Kumar claimed that there is crisis in the Congress and the JD(S) but unity in the BJP. “The BJP is in power in 15 states. Karnataka too would become free of the Congress in 2018. The Narendra Modi government has released sufficient funds to handle drought in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah should come out with the facts,” he said.

Shettar said the Siddaramaiah government, which has completed four years, has just secured pass marks. Later, the BJP team moved to Gubbi where a public rally was organised. As in Tumakuru, here too the BJP leaders continued their attack on Siddaramaiah. Eshwarappa said, “The Congress can’t tolerate me and Yeddyurappa working together.”

In the evening, the leaders again addressed the party workers in Tumakuru city. Yeddyurappa said the BJP president Amit Shah is conducting a secret survey in Karnataka to find winnable candidates for the next Assembly elections. The team would move to Chitradurga on Friday to hold public meetings.

Bengaluru: All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba on Monday accused the BJP and JD(S) of being silent over the alleged sex scandal involving Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna and said the horrifying case of violence against women has shocked the nation.

"More than 3000 videos with hundreds of women being sexually harassed, violated and even brutalised by MP Prajwal Revanna over the past few years have shaken the conscience of Kannadigas and Indians alike," she told at a press conference here.

Prajwal (33) is grandson of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. JD(S) joined the NDA in September last year. He was the NDA candidate in Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went for polls on April 26.

According to police sources, he left the country after voting was over.

The Congress government in Karnataka on Sunday constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the alleged sex scandal.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal had started making the rounds in Hassan in recent days.

Lamba said the horrifying case of sexual violence against hundreds of women has shocked the nation.

"These acts of sexual brutality against hapless women has revealed the depravity of MP Prajwal Revanna, but the silence and sheer apathy of the BJP and JDS in this horrendous case is absolutely shameful," she said.

She alleged that in these videos, some recorded against the consent of the victim, women are seen pleading to be spared but the MP continues to brutalise and sexually violate them. Party 'karyakartas', panchayat members, elderly women, women who came asking for help to him and even maids have not been spared.

"The horrible fact is, that the acts of this sexual predator MP Prajwal Revanna was endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he campaigned in Old Mysuru Region on April 14th, 2024," she alleged.

"....the BJP JDS are still silent which shows you their true Anti Woman DNA!! Will the BJP or JDS answer?".

Mangaluru, May 4: The Mangaluru International Airport was besieged with a harrowing message of terror recently, when an email, purportedly from malevolent elements, menacingly declared the planting of bombs within the airport premises.

Addressed to the office of the airport authority, the missive, steeped in ominous overtones, bore the ominous signature of a terrorist faction, ominously named 'Terrorizers 111'.

The communication, disseminated in English, ominously detailed the clandestine emplacement of explosives in areas eluding facile detection, accompanied by a chilling warning of their imminent detonation. The threat, ominously looming over not only the infrastructure but also the airborne vessels, portended a catastrophic deluge of bloodshed and loss.

In response to this dire communiqué, airport authorities swiftly engaged the apparatus of law enforcement, dispatching urgent alerts to the vigilant guardians of public safety. Acting upon the dictates of higher echelons, a formal dossier of this menacing correspondence was meticulously compiled, cloaked in the veil of confidentiality to thwart any premature dissemination.

Mangaluru International Airport found itself in grim camaraderie with more than 30 counterparts under the aegis of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and private domains, all recipients of this chilling electronic diatribe. A comprehensive net of precautionary measures was swiftly cast, fortifying the bastions of security in anticipation of any nefarious designs lurking within the shadows.

HSRP.jpg

With the Karnataka transport department extending the deadline for the installation of High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) twice--- in November last year and February, it is no longer planning to extend the same. The department ordered for the installation of HSRP before May 31.

The transport department through a notification in August last year, had mandated the installation on all the vehicles that were registered in the state prior to April 1, 2019. According to transport officials, there are nearly two crore vehicles that are supposed to get HSRP for their vehicles.

“As of now, the state has registered only 34 lakh HSRP installations, despite extending the deadline twice. From nearly 18 lakh installations since February, the numbers have almost doubled. However, there are still a large number of vehicles that have to opt for HSRP,” said C Mallikarjuna, Additional Commissioner for Transport (Enforcement).

“We will wait till May 31 to check for the total number of vehicles that fall in line. We are expecting HSRP installations to touch 75 lakh, after which we will consider an extension as the numbers indicate that people are falling in line and if some more time is given everyone will get it done. However, if we do not reach that number before the deadline, we will request the government not to extend the deadline but urge for an enforcement,” he said.

He also stated that a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed for the first time and if vehicle owners do not fall in line, it will be Rs 1,000 later until they have installed HSRP. “We will wait till the Model Code of Conduct ends and take the government’s opinion. We are going to request the government for strict enforcement if the HSRP installations are not satisfactory,” he added.
