Siddaramaiah for raising cap on quota

E-mail Print PDF

Bengaluru, May 20: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday reiterated that he wants to raise the cap on reservation in employment and education to 70% from the present 50%.sid copy

The government is waiting for the social-economic census report (caste census). It will take an appropriate decision in this regard, he told reporters.

He claimed that migration of people to cities and towns in search of jobs has come down substantially as a result of the Anna Bhagya scheme. Though the state is reeling under drought, not many people are migrating, he added.

He, however, did not give clear reply to a question whether the government was planning to start English medium schools. Instead, he spoke about the medium of instruction issue. The Centre should convene a meeting of all the states and try to resolve the medium of instruction issue, he added.

Don't expect better from Siddu, a run of the mill politician.

Supreme court time and again said that total reservations should not exceed 70%.
While I definitely support real downtrodden based on a combined index of social status and economic status, it should really be minimized and should have significant and measurable effect of improved socioeconomic status.
Siddu in his hurry to get more votes is trying to drive more wedges in to society creating cleavages.

For what you say, honesty is required. That, unfortunately, is missing.

The CM can even call for 100% reservation, knowing full well that he is on the way out. He should, in fact, be fighting for the deserving poor, irrespective of caste or religion and not those who have already exploited the system.

Quota mania is ruining the country. Ambedkar said that reservations should end in 1990. Unscrupulous politicians are exploiting caste and quotas for their political benefit.
