Mangaluru, May 29: After cancelling the appointment of N. Satheesh Kumar as the Police Commissioner of Mangaluru, the state government on Monday posted T R Suresh in his place. Mr. Suresh was the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Fire Services, Bengaluru.
Earlier on May 25, the government had posted Mr Kumar as Mangaluru Police Commissioner. It is said that some politicians were unhappy with his posting as he, as the SP of the district in 2008, reportedly couldn't handle church attack cases effectively.
A 2003 IPS officer, Mr. Suresh had also served as DCP, Bengaluru North. The government had transferred Mr. Suresh from the post in last September after violence broke out in Bengaluru over the Cauvery water issue.
The Mangaluru city police and Dakshina Kannada district police units have their task cut out in dealing with communal tensions, dealing with organised and underworld crime and face constant interference in work from political parties.
Barring Seemanth Kumar Singh to a large extent and Chandra Sekhar to a lesser extent, none of the earlier police commissioner served in the commissionerate for more than a year.
