Voice of confidence in KCR's leadership: TRS on GHMC win

February 6, 2016

Hyderabad, Feb 6: The ruling TRS saw today's results in Hyderabad municipal elections that gave it a spectacular victory and majority in the 150-member civic body as a vote of confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

"Basically, our work is reaching the people...", TRS leader and KCR's daughter, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who is also Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad, said.

TRS
The ruling TRS pulled off a spectacular victory and coasted to majority in the prestigious Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections decimating the TDP-BJP alliance and the Congress.

"I would say it's only our Chief Minister's vision and his dedication to make sure whatever his policies are...they reach the people. Making a policy is easy; implementation is difficult", she said.

The MP also said KCR is a "hands-on person" who reviews things and sees that deadlines are met.

On TRS not contesting the previous GHMC polls in 2009, Kavitha said it was strategic decision of Rao. "People had many apprehensions (then)...what will happen

if Telangana comes (becomes a reality)...what will be security situation...what would be the real estate situation in Hyderabad and what kind of person KCR would be", she said.

Kavitha further said people had then seen KCR as leader of agitation spearheading demand for statehood for Telangana and they were not sure about him as an administrator.

"Our plank is separate state (then). Contesting alone in Hyderabad does not matter (thinking then)", she said. Telangana was formed in 2014 with Hyderabad as its

capital.

"People in Hyderabad (after KCR came to power) have enjoyed the policies or whatever KCR has done as an administrator", she said, adding, people have seen work of the

state government.

TRS activists said victory in GHMC polls is sweet and special as the party had won only three of 24 Assembly seats that come under GHMC limits in the Assembly elections in 2014 and was not seen a major political force in the city. TRS won 96 seats and was leading in four divisions tonight.

New Delhi, Mar 21: Election Commission (EC) on Thursday directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of Narendra Modi-led government to put an end to bulk WhatsApp messages labelled 'Viksit Bharat Sampark.' It has also sought a compliance report immediately from the ministry.

EC had received several complaints that such messages are still being delivered on citizens’ phones despite the announcement of Lok Sabha elections and the model code of conduct (MCC) entering into force.

In response, the govt informed the commission that although the letters were sent out before MCC came into force, some of them could have possibly been delivered to recipients with a delay because of systemic and network limitations.

In the past few days, several WhatsApp users have received messages from 'Viksit Bharat Sampark' seeking feedback and suggestions from the public.

The message comes with a PDF that has a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioning government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Matru Vandana Yojana, etc, and seeking suggestions from the citizens over government initiatives and schemes.

The letter which addresses users as 'my dear family members' had sparked political controversy. Congress has called the PDF file attached with the message a ‘political propaganda’.

taxterror.jpg

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday said it has received fresh notices from the income-tax department, asking it to pay Rs 1,823.08 crore, and accused the ruling BJP of indulging in 'tax terrorism' to financially cripple the opposition party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Adressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here along with Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, party treasurer Ajay Maken alleged that the BJP is in serious violation of income-tax laws and said the I-T department should raise a demand of more than Rs 4,600 crore from the saffron party for such violations.

Ramesh alleged that through the 'electoral bonds scam', the BJP has collected Rs 8,200 crore and used the route of 'pre-paid, post-paid, post-raid bribes and shell companies'.

On the other hand, the BJP is engaged in 'tax terrorism', he alleged.

"Efforts are being made to financially cripple the Congress, but we are not going to be cowed down," Ramesh said.

He asserted that the Congress's campaign for the upcoming parliamentary polls will continue and the party will take its guarantees to the people of the country.

"We will not be scared of these notices. We will be more aggressive and fight these polls," the former Union minister said.

Maken alleged that the Congress and other like-minded opposition parties are being selectively targeted by the I-T department, which he described as the BJP's 'frontal organisation'.

The I-T department has launched a premeditated, diabolical campaign against the Congress by reopening matters of old returns on baseless grounds, he said.

Maken said the Congress will approach the Supreme Court soon over the I-T department's demands from it.
