Oman Tuluver holds family sports meet 2017

Oman: Pleasant weather, gathering of huge members with colourful sports jerseys formed a perfect environment to grand opening of maiden Oman Tuluver family sports meet 2017 under the leadership of Oman Tuluver.

The mega event was traditionally inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by K.K.Poonacha at Sidab Ahli sports complex. K.K.Poonacha who had a professional and illustrated hockey career both as a player and coach had won many International and national awards to his merit was also serviced as a Junior Commissioned Officer in Indian Army. Presently serving as Oman national hockey coach.With other noted sports, business & community leaders of Tulunadu, he appreciated Oman Tuluver for organising such a splendid sports event and encouraged people to prove their physical fitness and enhance sportsmen spirit.

Also other noted dignitaries, Samir Parkar and Mujahid Kotawadekar, (ICC qualified and Oman League cricket umpires). G V Ramakrishna, Diwakar Shetty of Multitech Contrg, Riyaz Ahmed of SAH Properties, Ganesh Shetty of STS, Manjunath Nayak of STS, Srinivas Shriyan, Dileep Correa, Umesh Bantwal, Guru Prasad Amin and Kuttappa were also present and graced the occasion.

Followed by Inauguration, Oman and Indian National Anthem was played before the Oath taking ceremony of Captains and players to stay true to the spirit of the game.

Oman Tuluver family sports meet began with Cricket and Volleyball following back to back Fridays with sports for both men and women fun filled Family individual games for all age groups.

Response to unique family sports meet was very good with many teams around the Sultanate of Oman participating in Sidab Ahli sports complex .Among 29 Cricket teams and 22 Volley ball teams, finally 14 Cricket teams are qualified for second round which will be held on 27.01.2017 and the teams are as follows,

Ramananda Shetty of Oman Tuluver proposed vote of thanks and requested all sports lovers and supporters to extend their support and co-operation for next level of sports meet in the coming weekends.

An Indian expatriate, hailing from Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka, who was detained in Jeddah jail in an alleged cyber case, was set free recently. He is allowed to continue his work in the same company. 

The 49-year-old Mangalurean, has been working for a Maintenance company in Jeddah for more than 13 years. He is known for his efficiency and sincerity in the company with good experience in his field of work. 

His company usually assigned him on duty in Jeddah sea port to take the delivery of the goods consigned to his company. As a part of his duty, he normally takes pictures of the goods before the transportation. He did the same in February 2023 too. 

The security personnel informed the police about his act that amounts to be a violation of the port security rule. He was unaware of the rule as he was doing it normally in the port during the release of the goods. Since then, he was detained by the police on the charge of photographing inside the port premises. After more than 6 months detention, he was released and allowed to work in the same company. 

The detainee’s brother based in Jeddah was constantly pursuing the case.

P A Hameed Padubidri, a pro-bono NRI lawyer and social worker based in Riyadh, extended his socio-humanitarian help in this case upon the request of his family and relatives. 

He actively involved trying to set him free from the jail on humanitarian grounds with the coordination and help of the Consulate General of India (CGI) Jeddah. The CGI keenly followed up the case with the concerned Saudi authorities. He was released from the jail recently and shared his happiness with his family and thanked good samaritans.
