Mangalore April 23: ‘New Trends in Nationalist Writing’, a two day national seminar organised by Besant Evening College, Mangalore in association with Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishad was inaugurated on April 23.
Delivering the keynote address after inaugurating the event, Dr Rajendra Chinni, Professor, Kuvempu University, said that our attempt to rewrite our history is a part of de-colonising ourself. Colonisation had brought a collective amnesia among the people creating an intellectual space. It’s illusionary vision of the time and proposition of native elite to follow it because it is easy to accept and practice in life, the effects of which we saw after we got freedom, he said.
Throwing light on literature review he said that as a subject we review only the verbal and structural content in any literature and not the political, social and cultural inputs in it. We should read through lines and try to understand all hidden meanings in it.
Further, explaining about the National history, he said it’s an illusionary vision of colonised thinking. We tend to believe it as the ultimate truth but in history, perspectives may differ.
Many scholars from different fields representing various states are participating in this seminar.
Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President DKSP, Prof Siddaramayya, Nagar Narayana Shetty, Udupi Jagadish Shenoy and Sathish Shetty were present.
