Mangalore, April 30: Promising the uplifting of quality of education in Mangalore University, Prof. TC Shivashnakar Murthy, new Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University said that teaching and learning should go hand in hand with research.

He was delivering a lecture at a felicitation programme organised by the Association of First Grade College Principals of Mangalore University at the Conference Hall of SDM College in the city, on Friday, April 30. Dr. H Shantharam, President of Private College Managements Association formally felicitated the Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Association.

Murthy said that National hubs of researches are not just institutions, but responsible universities. “Research is an inseparable part of education. Teaching and learning should go hand in hand with research. Teaching without research is of no value” he stated.

Expressing satisfaction over the overall performance of affiliated colleges, he said affiliated colleges are in fact the back bone of any university.

“Mangalore University currently has 174 affiliated colleges and five autonomous colleges. If compared to the other universities it is not a big number. But quality of education is more important rather than number of affiliated colleges” he said.

He also said that Mangalore University is ready to grant autonomous status to any college if it comes forward.

He also clarified that granting autonomous status doesn’t mean granting full freedom. “It is only academic autonomy” Murthy said.

On the fee structure of Mangalore University, Murthy said that it is very reasonable. “Some complaints have surfaced that fees of this university are very hefty. If you compare it to other universities, you will realise that our fees are lesser than that of other universities of Karnataka” he said.

Murthy called upon all the affiliated colleges to work together with the University to take it to greater heights. “It is our pleasure to cooperate with you, but at the same time, we expect the same cooperation from your side too” Murthy said.

Y Bhaskar Shetty, President of Federation of Principals Association presided over the programme.

How much research has this VC himself done.
Why do people listen to hypocrites like him?
They just speak whatever is the 'flavor of the month'
