Mangalore April 30: Amidst sounds of Kahale and Vaadya, the Mangalore Taluk Sahitya Sammelana kicked off with an attractive procession to begin with from the Deputy Commissioner’s office to Town Hall, on Friday, April 30.
The procession also saw Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty, President of the Sammelana, along with his wife, seated in a decorated vehicle, make their way to the venue of the Sammelana with splendour.
After reaching the venue, Rajani Duggana, Mayor, Mangalore City Corporation, hoisted the National Flag which was followed by the singing of Vande Matharam. The Sammelana Flag was then hoisted by Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President, DK District Sahithya Parishad, which was followed by the singing of Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Tanujathe, the State anthem.
Prabhakara Nirmarga, Sub Registrar, Mangalore University, inaugurated the ‘Naadu-Neralu’ photography exhibition. U T Khader, MLA, inaugurated the exhibition of musical instruments. Abhayachandra Jain, MLA, inaugurated the book exhibition.
Sa Shi Marulayya, Former State President, KASAPA, inaugurated the Sammelana.
Speaking on the occasion Marulayya said “I am very happy to have inaugurated the event. The light always beats darkness, and is always symbolized with spreading of knowledge”.
He appreciated the time sense and organizational skills of Mangaloreans. Besides, the drizzle that the city witnessed in the morning added more flavor to the event, he observed.
He lauded the organizers for creating a village atmosphere for the event which he said makes one feel nearer to one’s culture. ‘What you have is civilization and what you are becomes culture’, he said.
Bola Chittaranjandas, in his address, said that to become a good writer one needs concentration.
Addressing the gathering Dr Shantaram Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University, Deralakatte, said that all people need mental satisfaction and art and culture provides just that. Sahithya Sammelana is one place where it is made available, he said.
