India beat China to win women’s Asia Cup hockey title, qualify for World Cup

Indian women's hockey team defeated China 5-4 in shoot-out to win its second Asia Cup title at Kakamigahara in Japan on Sunday. The match went to the shoot-out after it ended at 1-1 in regulation time.

India booked their ticket to the FIH World Cup in 2018 with the victory.

India last won the title in 2004, when they beat Japan 1-0 in Delhi. India also took revenge of their 2009 defeat to China in the summit clash.

Navjot Kaur gave India 1-0 lead in the first half, when she scored a 25th minute field goal. Tiantian Luo converted a penalty corner to score the equaliser in the 47th minute.

In the shoot-out, the two teams were at 4-4 after five regular shots and the final was decided by sudden death. Rani scored the winner in the sudden death while China missed it, giving India 5-4 victory.
