Mumbai, Aug 24: More than 50 to 70 persons are feared trapped as a five-storey building caved in at Mahad in the Raigad district, on Monday. The crash site is located some 170 kilometres away from Mumbai.
So far, a dozen persons have been rescued.
The residential building, situated in Kajalpura area of the town had around 45 to 50 flats with nearly 100 residents. It suddenly came crashing down at 7 pm, the Raigad police said.
Relief and rescue teams with specialised equipments have been rushed to spot to rescue the people believed to be buried under the debris of the building.
Over the past fortnight, the Raigad district in coastal Konkan belt has been receiving heavy rainfall.
