Mumbai, July 26: Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Shiv Sena (UBT) head and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has accused the Narendra Modi-led Centre of misusing central agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax (IT) for political gains and described them as the real strength of the NDA.

“Last week, we came to know that an 'amoeba' named ‘NDA’ is alive. People who love the country formed I.N.D.I.A. The 36 NDA parties were hosted (in New Delhi) but they really do not need 36 parties. The NDA has three strong parties now: ED, CBI and IT. Where are the other parties?” Thackeray said in a two-part interview.

The interview was taken by journalist-politician Sanjay Raut, the Executive Editor of Saamana, the party mouthpiece.

The interview is available on Shiv Sena (UBT) YouTube channel and appeared in Saamana, the party’s Marathi mouthpiece and Dophar ka Saamana, the Hindi tabloid version.

In the interview, on the eve of his 63rd birthday, Thackeray spoke on a wide range of issues including the Manipur situation, the toppling of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, the rebellion of Eknath Shinde, who is now Maharashtra Chief Minister and controls the Shiv Sena name and symbol, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction joining NDA and Devendra Fadnavis’ charge that Shiv Sena stabbed at the back of BJP.

Thackeray equated Shinde with ‘kekda’ (crab) when asked about the toppling of the MVA. “The crab in the dam ensured that it burst,” he said, adding that over the last one year, he had received tremendous support from the people.

“My identity is that I am the son of (Shiv Sena founder) Balasaheb Thackeray. It's the people who have given me the confidence that I can take the legacy of Balasaheb ahead,” said Thackeray.

On Fadnavis, he said: “You say I stabbed at BJP so why was NCP broken (in July 2023). You had already formed the government by breaking Shiv Sena (in June 2022).”

To a question that the Central government does not seem to be keen on elections, he said: “Correct. That’s why I say that 2024 is very important for the history of the country. If this government comes again. I have doubts whether democracy would be alive and elections would be held again.”

On being asked if he still has faith in the Constitution, he said: “Why should we not have faith in the Constitution? The issue is those who follow (it) and those who do not follow (it).”

Mangaluru: In a chilling incident that has raised suspicions of foul play, a 35-year-old man was discovered dead inside a train coach traveling from Bengaluru to Murudeshwar.

The deceased, identified as Mouzzan from Kumbarpete, Doddaballapur, worked as a sales representative and was differently-abled. He boarded the train on October 24 from Yesvantpur and occupied the Divyang Coach.

The incident came to light on the morning of October 25 at Udupi, where a railway guard found Mouzzan unresponsive. The railway police immediately rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

With no identification documents on him, the police utilized a label, “RS Tailor Chickpete,” found on his shirt collar to trace his family through WhatsApp, helping his relatives reach Mulki by Saturday.

Upon inspection, police noticed ligature marks around Mouzzan’s neck, hinting at possible foul play. His family reported that his bag and mobile phone were missing, raising further suspicion.

The last known location of his phone was traced to Sakleshpur, suggesting he may have been targeted during the journey. Investigators suspect robbery as a motive and are now actively pursuing leads, with searches underway in Mysuru and Bengaluru.

A case has been filed at Mulki police station, and efforts to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident are intensifying as police work to piece together the circumstances that led to Mouzzan’s untimely death.

Bengaluru, Oct 22: Heavy rainfall has once again turned Bengaluru’s streets into rivers, with large-scale waterlogging paralyzing India’s IT capital. As residents brace for more storms, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a day filled with thunderstorms, predicting minimum temperatures around 21°C.

"Bengaluru is expected to see a cloudy sky today, with light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms impacting both urban and rural regions," stated the IMD. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 29°C, while the minimum will hover at 21°C.

Waterlogged streets have significantly slowed down traffic, with major bottlenecks reported along Sarjapura Road near the Wipro and RBD Layout junctions, according to police reports.

The flooding has sparked fresh criticism from opposition parties, who have seized the opportunity to target the Congress-led state government’s handling of the city's infrastructure.

Bengaluru: Following allegations by a section of farmers from Vijayapura district that their lands were marked as Waqf properties, Karnataka Chief Minister Sidddaramaiah on Tuesday said none of them will be evicted, and notices issued to them will be withdrawn.

"No farmer will be evicted from their land. Yesterday Revenue Minister (Krishna Byre Gowda), M B Patil (Industries and Vijayapura district in-charge Minister) and Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan have jointly said that no farmer from Vijayapura will be evicted from their land," Siddaramaiah said.

Speaking to reporters here, he said in case notices have been issued to farmers, they will be withdrawn.

Responding to a question that similar notices have been issued to farmers in Yadgir and Dharwad districts too, the CM said: "I will ask the Revenue Minister to look into it, nowhere farmers will be evicted."

Seeking to clarify "confusion" over 1,200 acres in Honavada of Tikota taluk being marked as Waqf property, M B Patil had recently said it was due to an “error” in the gazette notification.

He also had said only 11 acres out of the 1,200 acres are Waqf properties, and a task force headed by the Deputy Commissioner will be formed to resolve the issues.
