Kochi, Oct 16: With just one day remaining for the opening of the Ayyappa Hill Shrine at Sabarimala, a woman devotee attempted suicide, as the protests against women entering Sabarimala was intensified by various Hindu organisations in Kerala on Tuesday.
At Nialakkal, near Pamba, the woman tried to hang herself from a tree, creating mild tension in the area. However, police rescued the women.
As the tension mounted, protesters deboarded two women from a KSRTC bus going to Pamba at Nilakkal, stating that no women would be allowed to enter Sabarimala temple.
The women agitators stopped each and every vehicle that passed through Nilakkal, and checked thoroughly whether there were any women between the age group of 10 to 50 in the vehicles, as there were rumours that some women were planning to enter Sabarimala temple on the first day of Malayalam month of Thulam.
