Mangaluru, Apr 26: The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Shoor arrived at its base port -- New Mangalore -- on Tuesday.
The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, had commissioned the ship in Goa on April 11.
ICGS Shoor is commanded by the Deputy Inspector General, Surendra Singh Dasila. It is manned by 14 officers and 98 men. The vessel is under the administrative and operation control of the Commander of Coast Guard Region (West).
Designed and built by Goa Shipyard Ltd in Goa, this 105-metre-long offshore patrol vessel will be berthed at the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT).
ICGS Shoor is fitted with advanced navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machinery. It is designed to carry one twin-engine light helicopter and five high-speed boats, including for fast boarding operations, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol.
The ship is also capable of carrying pollution response equipment to combat oil spill contamination at sea.
This offshore patrol vessel will give maritime protection to the maritime states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa.
The Commander of Coast Guard in Karnataka, KR Suresh, received the ship in New Mangalore on Tuesday.
PC Parida, Chairman of NMPT, and AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, were present on the occasion.
