Hyderabad, Mar 29: A Hyderabad-bound Indigo plane suffered a tyre-burst while landing here late on Wednesday, giving 77 persons on board anxious moments. The airline said the plane landed safely.
Indigo 7117, an ATR-72 twin-turboprop, took off from Tirupati Airport around 8.50 p.m. and landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at around 10 p.m. When the flight was landing, one of the tyres burst, triggering emergency protocols at the airport. Though sources said sparks flew when the plane landed, there was no fire and no injuries were reported.
An Indigo spokesperson in a statement confirmed there were no injuries to 73 passengers and four crew members aboard the plane. The incident had stranded flights scheduled to take off on the airport’s runway, while nearly six flights were diverted even as Indigo’s staff worked to move the plane.
Operations were on hold from 10.13 p.m. as the aircraft suffered a tyre burst while landing. The plane was stuck on the runway,” a Hyderabad Air Traffic Control official said.
